Let’s talk about Love, baby!

Saturday 30th December, 2023

Yesterday I suggested that The Church (universal) needs to stop evangelising and moralising and preaching and get back to basics, figure out what it believes love to be and teach that, teach it loudly and widely and most importantly live it out, until there is not a Christian in the world who doesn’t know what love is, in fact, until there is not a person in the world who doesn’t know what the Christian understanding of love is.

If we can universally agree across the whole church on what love is, if we can find unity on this one doctrine then perhaps our other disagreements will seem smaller, perhaps they will even resolve themselves. C’mon Church, lets stop talking about sex, let’s talk about love.

So, where do we start? How about with this model I have created for romantic relationships. You can find this model and lots of hints and tips on how to use it both in marriage preparation classes, and in work with young people, here on my resources page, where you can download it completely free of charge. This model asks us to consider whether we are pouring from Jesus’ cup (love) into our relationship or Adam’s cup (sin) and the definitions in each cup come from 1 Corinthians 13. This is a biblical model for understanding what love looks like in a romantic relationship. Could we create a model like this, based on 1 Corinthians 13 for all our relationships?
